Duties and Responsibilities
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote regional cooperation for inclusive economic and social development in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP's role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region. The internship programme is for a period of two to six months, depending on the needs of the division. The intern is to report to the Information Systems Officer in the IT Services Management Units (ITSMU) of the Information Technology Section (ITS), Division of Administration (DA). The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Information Technology Section (ITS). Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual's background, including but not limited to: • Supporting the review and documentation of current IT Service Management (ITSM) processes • Assisting in identifying common pain points or bottlenecks in IT support workflows • Conducting research on tools and best practices for automating IT service operations • Contributing to the preparation of simple automation scripts, templates, or process documentation under supervision • Assisting in testing or reviewing AI or digital tools aimed at improving ITSMU efficiency • Supporting administrative and coordination tasks related to ongoing ITSMU projects • Participating in team discussions and brainstorming sessions related to service improvement initiatives
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Intern Specific text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
